Yes, flip flops or water shoes are required on all of our activities for safety reasons. You’ll be walking around on stones, gravel, hot asphalt, and, most importantly, oysters. There are thousands of sharp oysters all around the water’s edge, so wearing flip flops while entering and exiting the water is required to avoid injury.

We don’t recommend bringing your phone or camera on the tour. As the old expression goes, “No matter how waterproof, how durable, or how expensive your phone may be – it still sinks like an anchor.” We wouldn’t want you to lose a phone, even if it’s in a waterproof case.

We do take a picture of the whole group together after the tour has arrived safely on land. Our “SUP shots” are always shared on our social media pages, making them easily accessible for all those who participated. That being said, we will not take pictures while out on the water; while we are great SUP instructors, unfortunately, we are not professional photographers.

We have two dedicated drop-off/pick-up spaces in front of our shop that may be used for five minutes at a time. Please be prepared to drop-off and pick-up your party in front of the building prior to finding public parking. The spaces are located between our door and the Folly’s Best Rental’s Ford Bronco.
For long term parking, please find a public space at the boat landing (adjacent to our building) or along one of the many side streets. When parking at the public boat landing, you must be within the short-lined parking spots or the gravel area (Make sure you park to the left of the “no parking” sign.) Do not park in one of the trailer spots or you will be ticketed.
When coming on a weekend or major holiday, parking will most certainly be limited. If you feel public parking will be too difficult, please park in our lot at 114 East Indian Avenue and walk over to our shop.Click Here for detailed directions.
Please do not park in front of Folly’s Best Rentals or in the trailer spaces at the public boat launch. If at all possible, walk or ride a bike! -
Parking on the streets of Folly Beach is free; so long as you are facing the flow of traffic and have all four tires entirely off the roadway. We encourage folks to use public parking whenever possible, because we do not have long term parking at our shop. Click Here to view detailed rules and regulations.

The resident bottlenose dolphins live in the river year-round so there’s always a chance to see them, however, they’re more active at low tide when they feed in a unique way called strand feeding. Please watch our strand feeding video on the homepage under What’SUP.

NO! The American alligator lives in freshwater, while the Folly River is comprised of mostly salt. 99% of the time when you see a fin, it’s a dolphin or “dol-friend” as we like to call them. If we do spot a shark, they’re typically bonnet heads. This species is both small in size and typically feeds on oysters; so they’re rarely an issue.

We do go SUPing in the rain! Please be advised that all tours are subject to change and/or cancellation due to unsafe weather or conditions. We will do our best to reschedule your tour or in the event of a full cancellation, we will happily provide a refund.

There are two options for places to SUP with us – The Folly River is the easiest and most convenient body of water to paddle in, located adjacent to our shop. Our second option is located on Folly Beach within the surf zone. Paddle surfing is recommended for intermediate to advanced paddlers unless it’s a flat day on the ocean. See our rentals page for more details.
